Population Council Nigeria is looking for dynamic, visionary and result oriented people to fill the vacancy of Financial Accountant. The position is based in Abuja (Nigeria). The job holder will provide mid - management level support to Director, Finance & Administration Nigeria, Abuja office.

Job Description
  • Financial reporting and monitoring of ongoing projects
  • Preparation of draft budgets at different levels;
  • Ensure staff partners and vendors’ compliance with financial policies:
  • Perform internal auditing checks and suggest accounting controls;
  • Ensure the accuracy in the preparation and postings of journal entries and Finance’s files;
  • Support the Director of Finance and Administration to ensure that all necessary controls are in place over the Council’s assets;
  • Support the Director of Finance and Administration in ensuring that all reports to donors, and head office and internal documents are produced accurately and on a timely basis;
  • Ensure effective cash management, internal control, tax and statutory compliance;
  • Maintain and update monthly payroll;
  • Monitoring the balances on the staff’ and vendors advances on daily basis and ensure complete liquidation;
  • Preparation of the monthly national staff benefits report to the Director of Finance and Administration:
  • Preparation of the monthly schedules of prepayments and accruals for review;
  • Ensure timelines of disbursements and accurate recording.
Requirements of Financial Accountant:
  1. Minimum of B.Sc Accounting or its equivalent
  2. Must be a qualified Accountant such as ANAN, ICAN, ACCA
  3. At least 5 years experience in a similar post with a multinational organization/international NGO.
  4. Excellent command of the English language
  5. Good presentation skills
  6. Excellent computer skills.
  7. Ability to operate financial packages such as QuickBooks, FundEZ, Sunsytstem etc.
  8. Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
